An invitation

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Since the campaign ended, I have had many opportunities to meet with Portlanders. Last Saturday night I had the privilege of marching with our firefighters in the Starlight Parade. Citizens offered their hand or words of encouragement as I passed by, reminding me they have given me a gift -- the opportunity to serve on the Portland City Council.

On Friday, June 13, I begin my journey as your new voice at City Hall. I would be honored if you would join me, and my family, as I take the oath of office.

During the campaign, I spoke often about a place that symbolizes the best of Portland's present and a light to guide our future: Rosa Parks Elementary School. I can think of no better place to begin my journey as your next City Commissioner.

The program will feature Governor Barbara Roberts and Lewis & Clark Law School Professor John Kroger, who will administer the oath of office. A reception will follow. After the ceremony, I invite you to meet Principal Tamala Newsome and to tour the school and the New Columbia.
